Google Chrome - first thoughts
It may not be available for Mac or Linux yet, but Google's new web browser Chrome launched a few days ago for Windows PC's with the Mac and Linux versions said to be coming soon. I felt Chrome should be tried, so I downloaded it to my XP based laptop.
So far I'm quite impressed, it's a very tidy looking interface, if somewhat more minimalist than other browsers out there yet colourful. It's taking some time to get used to as by default there is no menu bar. Instead you have drop down menus from a Spanner icon for settings, and a Page icon to give you access to commands like new window / tab, cut, copy paste etc.
Follow up:
Pages render really quickly and, as far as I can tell from the sites I have tried, accurately. Perhaps one of the key features (certainly for the Windows world) is that each tab that you open creates a new process in task manage. This is a real bonus for those times when a website caused a crash of the browser, it only affects the individual tab, meaning that you can close the offending tab without closing the whole browser down.
Further testing is required, but so far it's a promising start for Google's first browser. Full review coming soon....
